Stop Sandustry Plants Growing Across Belts and Walls
Plant overgrowth remains a real player-reported failure mode, but v0.5.6 now documents why it can look infinite and adds two recovery behaviors. One Wet Seed still produces exactly one Flower; growth that crosses other Wet Seeds consumes them and attempts one Flower for each consumed seed. This guide combines that official boundary with conservative containment and does not invent a cleanup speed, room size, or permanent best layout.

First: confirm v0.5.6 and stop the source
SteamDB records v0.5.6 as public build 25106127, while the official Update #3 supplies the new recovery behavior. Confirm the public branch and current build before expecting seedlings to revert. Then pause dry Seed and Wet Seed delivery before touching the growth.
If the farm has no dedicated switch, block or empty the smallest upstream feed point. Preserve Water storage and unrelated belts instead of demolishing the entire factory. Continued input can place more Wet Seeds in the path of growing seedlings and make a finite problem appear to regenerate.
Second: isolate heat and outputs
Disable Pyro Dispensers, burners and nearby Fire while you assess the chamber. Fire is an official Flower-harvest method, but uncontrolled burning can release Gold and Amethelis into already blocked paths and hide surviving growth.
Create empty catch space below Planter Boxes because the official pages say those outputs pass through. Clear valuable output before opening walls.
Third: understand the finite seed count
Update #3 explicitly calls Flowers a zero-sum system: one Wet Seed becomes exactly one Flower. The apparent multiplication happens when a growing seedling passes through other Wet Seeds, consumes them, and tries to sprout one Flower for each seed consumed. Treat every loose Wet Seed as unprocessed inventory, not spontaneous duplication.
Count or quarantine accessible Wet Seeds before cleanup. That gives you a finite boundary to inspect and explains why burning only the visible Flowers while feeding new seeds does not end the incident.
Fourth: recover seedlings as Wet Seeds
On v0.5.6, shooting or digging at a growing seedling now tries to convert it back to Wet Seeds. The patch also says a seedling stuck between buildings automatically gives up and attempts the same conversion. Work from clean factory space toward the planter, use controlled sections, and collect the reverted Wet Seeds before they re-enter a growth path.
These are attempts described by the developer, not a promise that every crowded room clears instantly. If the state persists, capture the build and exact geometry, isolate the pocket, and avoid claiming a fixed number of shots or digs.
Rebuild an enclosed but usable chamber
Make the planter area a dedicated room with a single controlled Seed input, growth space above and an output bay below. Community reports agree on enclosure but disagree on the ideal dimensions; cramped plants can fail to mature, while excessive open routes make escape difficult to notice.
Commission one Wet Seed. Confirm growth, harvest and complete output evacuation before enabling a continuous feed. Treat the enclosure as serviceable machinery, not a sealed mystery box.
Add shutdown and overflow paths
Put a visible input stop before the chamber and capacity limits on Wet Seed delivery. Provide Gold and Amethelis destinations that cannot back up into the planter. The upstream wetting line should stop when the farm cannot accept product.
An automation is not complete until it can recover from empty input, blocked output and disabled Fire. Test each state deliberately with a small inventory.
Verify the recovery loop
After cleanup, inspect adjacent belts, filters, walls and portals for stranded Wet Seeds, dry Seeds, seedlings or Vine. Restart with one Wet Seed and follow it through one Flower and harvest. Then stop input again and confirm the room becomes quiet rather than continuing to grow.
If growth resumes with input closed, isolate the exact surviving pocket and repeat the v0.5.6 conversion attempt in a small section. Record any state that contradicts the documented one-seed-to-one-flower boundary and report it with the current build rather than scaling the chamber.
