Sandustry Puzzle Solutions by Room and Visible Clue
Sandustry does not publish a stable list of numbered puzzle levels, so this guide organizes current reports by visible room clues. Patch-confirmed recovery comes first; forum-derived steps are labeled and limited to matching Early Access reports.

Match your room: water, lava, ice or circuits →
Identify the room before using a report
Do not follow an answer based only on 'artifact puzzle.' Match at least two visible clues: the main material, colored build markers, target indicators, door or portal behavior, and which tools remain enabled. Current player descriptions separate the water-target, lava-door, ice, and circuit rooms, but they remain community reports. Demo-era puzzle hints are not used to establish current Early Access rules.
Room: falling water and three green targets
Recognition: water falls from above after a button press; three boxes or cables on the left show red/green state; yellow marked squares permit construction; blue marked areas appear in the water path. Multiple replies to a current Reddit post describe the same room. They agree that all three target indicators must become green to open the artifact door.
Reported solution: build Foundation or another permitted solid path on the yellow squares to redirect gravity-driven water toward a target. Press the room button to run another water attempt. Community replies say the targets can be activated across multiple attempts rather than all at once, and warn that blue squares reset water. Because this is community-observed rather than official documentation, watch the indicators after each change and remove a route that produces no state change.
Water-room reset and failure states
If water is stranded, use the visible room button again; a current reply reports that it loops the water. Do not bring outside water or dig through room boundaries. On v0.5.4 or later, official notes say puzzle reset buttons can no longer be deleted and a deleted button returns on reload. If the control exists but never produces water, capture the build, target colors, placed blocks and button response for a bug report.
Room: lava loop, doors and flammable material
Recognition: pressing a button toggles doors; lava falls into a portal and returns to the top; flammable material sits below or near yellow construction markers. Separate current Reddit and Steam discussions describe this same pattern, including players who tried tools and complicated thermal machinery because they did not realize the yellow area was buildable.
Reported solution boundary: build on the yellow squares immediately above the flammable element so the looping lava can be redirected to ignite it. Current replies do not establish one universal block-by-block drawing, so use the smallest permitted structure and confirm that the lava path changes. Do not place Thermal Buffers as an experiment: players report consuming or losing the useful lava and leaving the room harder to recover.
Lava-door bug or missed clue?
A missed clue looks like this: the button and doors still respond, lava still loops, and no structure has been placed on the yellow zone. A possible broken state looks different: the door becomes solid red, the button no longer toggles the expected door path, or lava no longer drops even after the intended build area is used. Multiple Steam participants reported the solid-red state.
Use the official v0.5.4 recovery first. Close and reopen a puzzle door to restore its red blocks, then reload once if the room remains inconsistent. Preserve the state before using demolition. The patch permits limited removal of certain red blocks, but that is a recovery feature, not the puzzle solution, and the official note limits the relevant demolisher scan to 256 tiles or fewer.
Room: frost, ice and a restricted tool set
Recognition: the room contains Frostbed, snow or a solid ice obstruction; building and most weapons appear disabled; the player can damage or dislodge a small amount of the cold material. In a current pictured Reddit thread, replies disagreed initially between Flamethrower and Gun, but the original poster later confirmed that shooting the ice with the Gun solved that specific room.
For that matching report, equip the allowed Gun and aim at the ice rather than the surrounding Frostbed. Look for visible damage before concluding nothing works; a separate current thread about blue roof material also reports that sustained Gun fire can take time. Do not generalize this to every ice puzzle or import the Demo guide's weapon comparison into v0.5.6.
Room: Moonhop or blue material with circuit indicators
Recognition: blue or Moonhop-like material must be cleared while circuit indicators or sensors remain inactive. Current follow-up comments on a circuit-puzzle post report a circuit failing to trigger after most material was removed. Other current room reports say the allowed Gun eventually damages a visually tough blue material and that continued fire can fill or trigger sensors.
The supported test is narrow: use the tool the room allows, verify that the target material shows damage, and continue only while observable progress occurs. A commenter suggests upgrading the Gun, but there is no official current source establishing a required upgrade level, shot count, or universal Moonhop solution. This guide therefore does not publish those values.
When a circuit puzzle is probably bugged
Do not call it a bug while target material remains, an allowed tool has not been tried, or a wall symbol has not been checked. If all visible target material is removed, one circuit remains inactive, the same state survives reset and a clean reload, and the build is current, report the material, inactive indicator, allowed tool and whether visible damage occurred. Do not use save editors or mods to force the signal.
The universal safe recovery order
Record the state; read visible symbols and interface hints; list enabled tools; identify marked construction zones; perform one reversible action; observe indicators; use the room reset; verify v0.5.4 or later; reload once; then report. Handle a physically trapped player as a separate support issue because current Early Access sources checked here do not document a universal player-position command. Avoid outside liquids, large demolition selections, Thermal Buffers unless explicitly required, and old-Demo advice without a current-build match. Official current sources do not provide numbered level names, universal coordinates, exact damage thresholds, or pixel-perfect blueprints.
