Sandustry Artifact Puzzles: What to Try and When to Return

This is the spoiler-light hub for Sandustry artifact rooms. It separates verified official guidance from community hints and routes specific failures to focused pages. It does not publish invented coordinates, an alleged universal artifact order, or a copied walkthrough from an unidentified build.

Start with current-build evidence

Use current Early Access sources and the room itself rather than Demo-era puzzle, control, or tool suggestions. Before looking for a solution, note the build, dominant material, visible symbols, disabled actions, door or portal state, current objective, and usable tools.

That compact evidence packet prevents a v0.5.6 room from being confused with older footage. Keep the untouched view and record each change so later patch notes or current-build reports can be matched to the actual state rather than to a remembered room description.

Decide whether the room is ready now

A reachable room is not necessarily a room you can currently verify. If a clue appears to reference a tool or material you do not possess, stop excavating and mark the location. Preserve the entrance and a safe route so returning later does not require reconstructing the world.

Do not infer a hidden prerequisite merely because a community reply names one. Compare the clue against items visible in your current inventory and the official Research page. If no official description or direct current-build observation supports the proposed requirement, label it unverified and continue progression elsewhere.

Read symbols, restrictions and geometry

Treat disabled weapons or building as information, not immediate evidence of a bug. A current Steam discussion about an ice-and-water room shows that players commonly interpret restricted controls as being locked out. The only reply advises checking wall symbols and available tools, but that reply remains community guidance rather than an official solution.

Survey from top to bottom: source material, gravity path, colored or marked surfaces, targets, door indicators, reset controls, and an exit route. Record what is fixed and what can be manipulated. A clean diagram made from your own observations is more reliable than a screenshot from an unknown seed or version.

Use a one-change test loop

State one hypothesis before acting: for example, a visible symbol refers to a particular available tool, or a movable material must contact a marked target. Make only that reversible change, observe every indicator, and restore the room if the result is negative. Randomly trying tools while moving terrain at the same time destroys the evidence needed to learn from the attempt.

Pause before consuming a scarce material, breaking a boundary, flooding another chamber, or closing the only path out. If the test could be irreversible, back up the save using current platform guidance and capture the untouched state first. The goal is a reproducible observation, not a lucky completion that cannot be explained.

Handle the ice-and-water room conservatively

Current Steam and Reddit posts confirm strong demand around an ice-over-water or gravity-water room. Community replies describe wall clues, yellow build areas, repeated water attempts, and multiple targets. Those details are useful candidate hints, but neither post is an official specification and no verified current-version video was found during this research pass.

Therefore this site does not present a pixel-perfect blueprint or claim one universal layout. Start by checking the wall symbol and allowed tool, then preserve the water source and observe which indicators change after a controlled attempt. If the room no longer resets, follow the recovery page before importing any community layout.

Separate player position from room state

A trapped character and a changed puzzle are different failures. The current Early Access sources checked for this page do not document a universal player-position command, so first preserve the room state and inspect the pause menu and keybindings available in your build.

If no current in-game recovery control is visible, stop digging through an unknown boundary and use the official support route with the build, platform, room state, and save details. Moving the player, when a current control exists, still should not be treated as regenerating water, reopening a door, or resetting objectives.

Find a missing artifact with the Locator

For an undiscovered artifact, use the documented Tier 5 Locator. Hold the mouse button while within Void Juice to charge it; a scan then pulses a rough direction toward the nearest artifact. Repeat short scans while preserving safe routes through hard terrain.

The official page lists a Triangulation Lens for exact guidance but no verified cost. A September 2 thread proves current demand, not a fixed ice-mountain coordinate or seed-randomization rule.

Separate a puzzle mistake from a game bug

A failed hypothesis is not a bug. A stronger bug report has a current version, platform, untouched or reset state, exact permitted actions, expected indicator, actual indicator, and repeatable steps. Reload only after recording the pre-reload state. If the same minimal sequence fails again, preserve logs and use the official reporting channel.

Patch 0.5.4 specifically changed puzzle reset buttons and red blocks, which means guides written before that patch can recommend obsolete recovery behavior. Check the build before trying destructive advice. Never download an unknown save editor or modify save data merely to follow a forum comment.

Choose the next focused guide

Use Puzzle Reset and Stuck Recovery when a reset control is missing, a red door block remains, or the player cannot leave. Use Tier 5 Unlock when research remains blocked. Keep this hub for first-contact diagnosis and evidence preservation.

The narrower pages separate discovery, recovery, and progression so one checklist does not mix unrelated states.

What this guide does not claim

There is no verified universal artifact-location list in the official sources checked here. This guide does not claim that every puzzle uses water, circuitry, a particular weapon, or the same geometry. It also does not convert Reddit votes or repeated phrasing into game mechanics.

Room-specific walkthroughs require identifiable current-build evidence; community posts remain labeled as demand and candidate hints.
